A Study
in Tradition.
Small room.
Strong
character.
This compact cloakroom called for an interior with genuine personality. Rather than treating its proportions as a limitation, the design uses them to create a room that feels intimate, considered and completely distinct.
Traditional forms establish the character of the space. Bespoke white panelling, period inspired sanitaryware and warm brass fittings are set against deep wall colour, allowing the lighter detailing to stand forward.
Every element was selected to earn its place. Storage, seating and practical fittings have been incorporated into the architecture so the finished room feels composed rather than crowded.
Tradition,
with conviction.
A restrained palette gives the room its presence. Deep wall colour creates depth, while crisp painted joinery, warm timber tones and traditional fittings provide definition.
Rather than relying on decoration alone, the character comes from proportion, material and detail. The herringbone floor introduces warmth, while brass fittings catch the light and prevent the darker elements from feeling heavy.
The result is confident but not theatrical. It feels rooted in traditional design, yet still entirely appropriate for a contemporary home.
Familiar
forms.
Beautifully
resolved.
At the centre of the scheme are traditional Thomas Crapper & Co. pieces, chosen for their unmistakable period character and beautifully resolved proportions.
The exposed cistern is paired with a compact cloakroom basin finished in a deep Blue Anthracite glaze. Against the surrounding white joinery, its rich finish becomes a subtle focal point.
Brushed brass fittings soften the darker elements of the room and bring warmth to the overall composition.
Character
in every
fitting.
The sanitaryware gives this room much of its identity. Rather than concealing the working elements, the exposed pipework and cistern are treated as part of the composition.
Brass pipework, wall mounted taps and traditional controls introduce a warmer metallic tone against the dark basin and crisp painted joinery.
The result feels established rather than themed. Each fitting contributes to the room's character while remaining entirely practical.
“Traditional design does not have to feel predictable. Here, strong colour, beautifully considered fittings and intelligent storage give a compact room an identity entirely of its own.”
Dark glaze.
Warm brass.
Quiet drama.
The Blue Anthracite basin brings depth to the lighter wall panelling around it. Its glazed surface changes subtly with the light, while the brass fittings introduce warmth and a sense of permanence. Together they form a focal point that feels decorative without becoming overstated.
Every inch
considered.
In a cloakroom of this scale, successful design depends on how naturally every element fits together.
Built in bench seating provides useful function without introducing another freestanding piece of furniture. Cabinetry below keeps everyday items out of sight, while the hooks above make use of otherwise redundant wall space.
The herringbone floor draws the eye through the room and adds warmth beneath the darker wall treatment. Nothing has been included simply to occupy space.
Traditional.
Individual.
Entirely at home.
The finished cloakroom combines period influence with a confident contemporary eye. Strong colour, warm metalwork and carefully made joinery give the room richness, while its practical layout ensures every element has a reason to be there.
